The grand opening of the 1st century Church We know from biblical account that Jesus Christ was arrested to a crime he did not commit and crucified, and was buried, and on the third day he rose again from the grave. After he rose from the grave he showed himself to many people especially to his chosen apostles. In Acts 1:3 it said, ''To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.'' In Acts 1:6,7 8 it says, ''When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the Kingdom of Israel?'' v7, ''and he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.'' v8, ''But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost (Spirit) is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, Samaria, and unto the uttermost (remote) part of the earth.'' So here is the outlined responsibility of the Ist Century Church and all the future generations of churches that will come along the way. They will be witnessess for the Lord Jesus Christ, the anointed one who had taken away the sin of the World. The hundred twenty new member of the church who were assembled in the upper room waiting for the comforter to come. ''And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.'' (Acts 1:2 kjv). While they were waiting, suddenly sound came from heaven rushing as a mighty wind. And there the Comforter appeared to them as of a cloven tongue and sat upon each of them. OF course they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and started to speak with different languages. |
