ministry\baptism\testing In Matthew 3:1,2,13 ''In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying Repent ye; for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.'' (v13) '' Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.'' (v16) When he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and , lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'' So from the gitgo, Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, and this set the stage on how Christians should be baptized, by full water emersion. In addition to the full emersion, baptism act as the confirmation and identification of our relationship with the Son, the Holy Spirit and the Father. In Jesus baptism, the Father, the Holy Spirit, and John were present to testify that indeed Jesus Christ is the very Son of God. Note also that Baptism purpose was not to save a person, since Jesus Christ does not need Salvation, He is Holy, perfect Son of God. Holiness, and becoming the son of God are vital requirements before water baptism. It is simple; Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God, and holy, perfect. John the Baptist himself baptized people (Jews) who came and repent. Repentance is a must do prior to water Baptism, because repentance is link into trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. So the formula is this: You come to God and repent of your sin,(acknowledge you're a sinner) then recieved the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior ( Faith in Jesus Christ alone), then as obedient newly born again believer be baptized by water emmersion. (it is like identification). For us sinners, since we are not holy in the eyes of God, there is a need of conversion from darkness to light, and by placing your faith in Christ Jesus as your Savior, God the Father will then declare you righteous (justified), set you apart unto Him, (Sanctification) and prepare you for good works (consecration), then finally take you home to his kingdom (glorification). These works of God in you comes only when you come to him for forgiveness of sin, and put your trust in his Only Begotten Son as the Savior. Now that you did what God requires from you, legally you are adopted into His family as one of the millions adopted sons/daughters awaiting for the final trip to God's Kingdom. Now that you know how to get save, you decide. After Jesus Christ Baptism, he was immediately tested in the wilderness by Satan himself. After 40 days of fasting Jesus was tempted by the Devil. The Devil came and commanded Jesus to turn stone into bread. How can a created being command the Almighty God and be sucessful. It is a good try but it does not work. Jesus said, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. (Luke 4:4) Here in this passage Jesus Christ set the stage how are we going to survived in this hostile world. Not only that physical food is essential to our existence, but the Word of God also play a vital role in our spiritual life as we live in day to day bases. We cannot fatten our flesh, and at the same token starved our soul by ignoring the word of God. This does not work; we should have a balanced life style by taken in both, the physical and the spritual food in a daily bases.
After Baptism Jesus was tempted (tested) by Satan himself, but came out as the victor. Let's deal with baptism since it is one of the controversies among professing Christians in our days. Most Baptist used the normal way which is baptism by emmersions as an act of obedience, however, some used sprinkling, or infant baptism. Infant baptism and sprinkling were foreign to the word of God, you will never find any infant baptism, nor sprinkling done by the apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism is not a method to gain salvation, rather it convey that the person being baptized had already recieved the Lord Jesus Christ as his/her Savior. Remember, before a person can be baptized, God would first declare him/her as a righteous person. He or she need to become a saint first by coming to God in repentance, and trusting the Only Begotten Son of God: the Lord Jesus Christ as his/her Savior. By trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as the Savior, the Bible said that the ''Blood'' of Christ shall cleanse all sinners from all unrighteousness. The blood of Christ is the one that will remove all sins in our behalf, and in return God the Father will going to justifies us. (declare us righteous). This wil give us the full access to the Throne of God 24/7 since we are now part of the family of God. As Baptized believers in Christ Jesus come access to all the benefits and responsibility toward God, and the people whom we served. This also put us in a place of sainthood by God Himself, not by any religious institution. |
